Tropical Storm Barry Forms Plus New Area to Watch; Heavy Rains Possible with Both
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Barry over the SW Gulf (see map below). It is also monitoring for an area of possible development over the NE Gulf or off the SE US coast over the next 7 days (yellow hatched area map below) where it estimates a 20 percent chance of formation of a tropical depression or storm over the next 7 days. For updates check hurricanes.gov.
The main impact from both of these areas appears to be heavy rain, whether the NE system becomes tropical or not. Note the high rainfall totals over the NW Gulf and adjacent costal areas with several inches ot a foot of rain possible over the 7 day period. Note also the heavy rains in Mexico, due to Tropical Storm Barry on the east side and in part due to Hurricane Flossie on the Pacific side.
See the latest satellite as of Sunday morning showing both TS Barry and Hurricane Flossie (including forecast cones), as well as additional thunderstorm north of these storm centers (also contributing to the rainfall).
