New Tropical Disturbance to Watch; Dust Tracks Across the Atlantic
A New Tropical Disturbance to Watch
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking a tropical disturbance forecast to track into the Bay of Campeche over the next few days. They give it a 20 percent chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm. Should bring heavy rains to portions of Belize, Guatemala, Southeastern Mexico. Any low pressure that does develop is expected to remain over those areas. Can follow their latest thinking at hurricanes.gov
Here is a closer look at the cluster of thunderstorms associated with the tropical disturbance getting set to cross the Yucatan Peninsula, along with the potential development area as outlined above.
Saharan Dust Tracking Across the Atlantic
Shown below a NASA model showing the forecasts of Saharan African Dust tracking across the tropical Atlantic. The hot, dry nature of this desert air tends to inhibit tropical cyclone formation. Looking at these projections it looks like some of that dust, already impacting Florida, may reach the Texas Coast early next week.
